uCTRL
AI-native personal health app. I'm the only React Native engineer and I build the whole iOS app.

Context
uCTRL (short for “you control”) is an AI-native personal health platform that unifies a user’s Apple HealthKit data, EHR records and manual notes into a single conversational experience. Users get daily AI insights, ask health questions in natural language, track medication adherence, and share a filtered, time-bounded lifeline with doctors or family.
My role
I joined in February 2026, while the team was building the MVP. I’m the only React Native engineer and I own the iOS app. I work with two senior backend engineers, a backend intern, a product intern, the PM (who is also the product owner), a product consultant and a senior designer.
What I built
- HealthKit integration
- The AI insights home
- The Health Assistant chat, with actionable responses
- The Lifeline timeline
- Granular data-sharing flows
- Medication tracking with OCR
- Biometric gating and onboarding
- Voice input with Apple’s native speech-to-text
Key decisions
- Bare React Native instead of Expo. The app depends on deep, native HealthKit integration, so I chose full access to the native iOS project over Expo’s managed workflow.
What was hard
- The HealthKit integration.
- Voice-to-text on top of Apple’s native speech recognition.
- The Lifeline’s linear view, where you zoom in and out of your health history. It was a challenge in both design and front-end.
- Animations throughout the app.
- Keeping onboarding quick and simple for a product that asks for sensitive health data.
Status
The MVP is in active development and hasn’t launched yet.
